Wedding Feature in Elegant Wedding Magazine Spring 2020

March 11, 2020

Last summer in late July, we had the pleasure to work with Samantha who definitely tops our list as one of the sweetest clients we’ve worked with! Our hair and makeup team travelled to Oakville to get Sam and her bridal party ready for her big day. The ceremony was taking place at St. Andrew Church, where Sam would arrive in her grandfather’s ‘61 Thunderbird. The reception would then take place in downtown Toronto, at the gorgeous boutique hotel venue, One King West. Samantha is also a talented jewelry designer, and designed her wedding bands, and bridal party’s jewelry as well! You can check out her work here.

We were so excited to hear that the wedding was finally featured in last month’s issue of Elegant Wedding magazine and wanted to share it with everyone! Weddings truly take a village to plan and execute, and we absolutely love seeing everything come together so beautifully. Congratulations again Samantha and Brad! We can’t wait to glam you up again soon!

Winterizing Your Foundation

January 27, 2020

‘Winterizing’ your foundation for the colder months is a thing! When doing our client’s makeup during these winter months, we always keep in mind that with their skin being more susceptible to dehydration & dryness throughout the day, it’s always good to take preventative measures to make it look more luminous. That can include changing your foundation in the winter months versus sticking to your same foundation all-year round!

For someone who typically has oily skin in the summer, it’s not out of the ordinary to have really dry skin in the winter depending on your environment (due to heaters, lifestyle, location & environment). A foundation that will make your skin glow will usually have light-refracting technology that makes it appear extra radiant, but will also have added hydration to go hand-in-hand with your winter moisturizer. Here are some of our favourite foundations that you can use in winter (that you might not use in the summer depending on your skin-type!) to help your skin look amazing.

Light coverage:

For a no-makeup-makeup dewy finish, the Laura Mercier Tinted Moisturizer Natural Skin Perfector is a great option. It’s border-line skincare with spf 30 that’s needed in the winter months as well! It is described as a ‘Hydrating Complex made up of Macadamia and Kukui Seed Oils that helps increase the skin’s moisture levels long-term for 24 hours of hydration, while reducing the signs of visibly dry skin’.

Medium coverage:

Tarte’s ‘Shape-Tape’ Hydrating Gel foundation is very luminous, buildable & oil free (yes you can get hydration from an oil free foundation too), with hyaluronic acid and collagen that work to plump and smooth the skin!

Full coverage:

Lastly, for a more full coverage hydrating foundation I love the Nars Natural Radiant Long-wear Foundation. The name says it all! Nars claims that 91% of women agree that their skin appears smoother while wearing the foundation.Enjoy extra-hydrated skin for these last few winter months and you’ll see the difference. To book a private lesson or a makeup appointment with The Beauty Team, email us at: info@thebeautyteam.ca or click here and we will treat your skin to the best foundation for your skin type and give you more tips for ‘winterizing’ your very own foundation.

Vintage Looks for Ricarda’s Toronto Launch

November 1, 2019

Back in the Summer of 2016, we were hired by a marketing agency to help piece together vintage looks for the restaurant launch of Ricarda’s in Toronto. The agency was using a street team of promotional models to boost the restaurant launch for a two day event where the street teams rode bikes through the city. Two hair and two makeup artists were needed for the styling for the street team activation which was a 50’s and 60’s vintage Mediterranean inspired look.

Here are some of the beauty tips we used to keep the street team looks sweat-proof and last through the summer heat all day long:

  • Hair was set in pins to cool while makeup was completed to really hold the vintage wave

13923318_1660933447561998_1474406335414712670_o

  • We used Urban Decay All Nighter setting sprat before, during and after application to be sure the makeup wouldn’t nudge

13908827_1660933507561992_7486379259332770323_o

  • Quick Lip Tip – hydrate lips with a rich balm prior to any makeup application. Let the balm sit and once the lips are ready, apply a primer first then line the lips with a red liner for definition and proceed with lipstick, blot and repeat

13653447_1660933554228654_2977267827244845906_o

  • Flash lashes were used for a doe eyed look

13668785_1660933937561949_1046297732757776402_o

We had so much fun using our creativity putting together these looks for the street team activation! The restaurant has been a huge success since the launch with another location opened in Oakville. If you’re a marketing agency or promotional model company, we help create the looks to make your event and models stand out! We provide makeup, hair and wardrobe support for any of your events or activations. To learn more about our on demand beauty services, contact us at info@thebeautyteam.ca.

The New Glo Skin Beauty Holiday 2019 Set

October 3, 2019

Hi there! I’m Jenna and the co-founder of thebeautyteam.ca and regional trainer for gloskinbeauty.com. I have some exciting new makeup news to share with you below! The holiday collections from Glo Skin Beauty have just released  and they are stunning and super easy to use. Just to keep in mind, myself and my team provide at home makeup lessons and can show you some quick holiday makeup looks that suit your skin tone and lifestyle. Feel free to email us for more information and to book your holiday glam session at info@thebeautyteam.ca.

As for the makeup news, the new Muse Collections for the Glo Skin Beauty holiday 2019 have just arrived! These consist of: The Georgia shadow set, the Frida shadow set, the Ella lip duet , The Billie lip duet, and the Encore gloss trio!

First of all, the cream stay shadow sticks in the shadow sets are hands-down the best shadows around! They are very easy to apply (and I’m not just saying that because I’m a makeup artist and I can make it look easy! Promise!). The colour pay-off is intense, the shades are rich & each set comes together for a cohesive look to wear alone or for a single colour statement. The cream stay shadow sticks stay put for 12 hours and multi-task as a base, shadow and liner in one! Not to mention, these shadows are way too easy to apply: just blend with your fingers or with a base, then smudge or use a blender brush. The special edition splatter clutch, which is included in the set, is absolutely charming and a sophisticated way to carry around your shadow essentials for the holiday season!

image2

Colours in The Georgia set include: Beam (champagne shimmer), Orbit (matte charcoal), Shell (blush pearl) and Echo (metallic brown)

Colours in The Frida set include: Bonbon (deep matte reddish/brown), Latte (matte tan), Solstice (shimmer copper/gold) and Canyon (matte clay)

If you’re going to a holiday party the Billie lip duet is your answer for the hottest lip colour. It consists of a mid-toned raisin suede matte lipstick that stays on all day with intense colour pay off! The set includes a conditioning lip balm in a tube and a crayon sharpener as well which makes this an essential lip set! The Ella Lip Duet set is also so beautiful for a fresh neutral pink lipstick look.

Lastly you can’t forget to ‘gloss it up’ with the Encore gloss trio! These coordinated gloss shades include: desert bloom, naked and brown sugar. The super smooth feel and the high shine will have you quickly converted to Glo Skin Beauty glosses!

We highly recommend Glo Skin Beauty holiday 2019 collection available at medi spas and online at gloskinbeauty.com. Feel free to email us for custom orders as well at info@thebeautyteam.ca. You will not be disappointed and we apologize when you get addicted to this makeup line! ? Hehe!

Enjoy! ❤️

Celebrity Beauty On Set

On Set with Martin Short & Steve Martin

July 18, 2019

Jenna – Co-founder of The Beauty Team writes:

Myself and my team member Nicole had the pleasure of working with Martin Short and Steve Martin recently on two separate occasions.

This is the third time I personally have had the pleasure to work with Martin Short, and the first time with Steve Martin! These two comedy legends are an absolute pleasure to work with. They have been friends for 30 years, and their secret to a lasting friendship? Laughter!

So many people ask me how it is to work with Martin Short, and my response is always that he’s hilarious even when I’m doing his makeup! My mother actually grew up with him and my great grandmother babysat him, so my family has a long history with him. I’ll never forget the second time I did his makeup and I asked him to take a picture with me. I said to Marty: what should we do in the photo? He said “Well, you should do my makeup!” We laughed and laughed and this was the photo that was captured:

image1

Martin Short and Steve Martin were interviewed for a 60 Minutes Australia feature where I did their makeup on stage after their sound check. I had the pleasure to be able to sit in on for awhile, and prior to their stage show “Now You See Them, Soon You Won’t” later that evening.

image2

It was a makeup application where I had to do everything on stage prior to their interview, so I spritzed their faces with Glo Skin Beauty hydration mist to quickly prep. I then held my Glo Skin Beauty therapeutic makeup palette and powder brush for a quick and easy application with enough coverage to make them look flawless. I followed this by a quick brow and concealer application and scurried off the stage. Nicole then did their makeup on location for the second day of interviews.

Watch below for the YouTube 60 minutes Australia feature where our makeup work is in action! You can check out their special which is now streaming on Netflix here.

BACKYARD BUILDS: Hear from the Onset Makeup Artists!

April 5, 2017

Get insider info from our hair and makeup artists on the set of HGTV’s Backyard Builds and learn top tips for looking flawless on screen!

FullSizeRender (7)

We asked The Beauty Team artists, Justine and Natasha, a few questions about their experience working on the set of Backyard Builds:

  1. You used FACE Atelier products on Sarah and Brian. Which were your favourites?

J: My favourite FACE Atelier products had to be the FACE Atelier Ultra Pressed Powder for Brian and FACE Atelier Jolie Lipstick for Sarah—she loves a pop of colour!

N: Other than FACE Atelier, Pro Long Wear Concealer from MAC was great for under their eyes or on any problem spots.

  1. How did you control shine on long shoot days?

face_atelier_ultra_matteJ: The trick to controlling shine was to prime with FACE Atelier Ultra Matte, use the FACE Atelier Ultra Pressed Powder then follow with one more layer of FACE Atelier Ultra Matte.

N: Blotting papers by Elf and Make up Forever HD loose powder were key for controlling shine. On long days we would even clean the face and start fresh!

3. What were your set bag essentials?

J: My set bag essentials were the FACE Atelier Ultra pressed powder, FACE Atelier Jolie Lipstick, and two bottles of water with straws to keep the talent hydrated!

N: For me, Make up Forever HD translucent powder, lip balm, and make up setting spray!

  1. What was your favourite look on Sarah?

J: Sarah always looked her best with a bit of Colour Runway on the cheeks and FACE Atelier lipstick in Jolie on the lips!

N: For Sarah, less is more! Blush and a coral lip!

  1. What is a typical day as a makeup artist on set of Backyard Builds?

J: No two days were the same on Backyard Builds! I was always ready to climb a tree house ladder for touch ups.

N: A typical day on an outdoor set meant always being ready behind the scenes to fix flyaway hairs!

  1. What is your best tip for looking amazing on camera?

J: The best tip to looking good on camera is staying hydrated.

N: Blending your blush and contour is important but don’t be afraid to go a little heavier as the camera may not pick up the pigment!

Be sure to tune in for the premiere of Backyard Builds on April 6th at 10 p.m. and catch the work of The Beauty Team on the big screen!

Conair Infiniti Pro Straightener – Pro or No?

March 6, 2017

image1Our hair expert and OUAI Canadian Educator, Alysse, tested out the Conair Infiniti Pro Straightener and we just had to ask her about it!

Here are her answers:

Q: What are your favourite features of this product?

A: The number one thing was that it heated up quickly and was simple to use! I personally loved how it left some movement in my hair as opposed to making it pin straight and lifeless. My models also loved how it didn’t pull and made their hair feel silky and shiny.

Q: Who would you recommend this product to?

A: I would recommend this product to a variety of hair types however, if you have very kinky roots this product is not for you. The straightener doesn’t get close enough to smooth them out. I would say the target market is the girl on-the-go. It heats up quickly and smooths out hair giving you a polished look in minutes.

Q: Would you use this on a daily basis?

A: I would definitely use this on a daily basis. It’s always good to have easy-to-use products on hand to make mornings less stressful! Not to mention, if it makes my models happy I really can’t complain!

Q: Overall, do you give this product your stamp of approval?

A: Yes! It surprised me. I didn’t think I would like it as much as I did! I would definitely recommend trying the Conair Infiniti Pro Straightener.

Thanks Alysse!

If you’re always on-the-go but don’t want to sacrifice your beauty routine, the Conair Pro Infiniti straightener may be the perfect tool to add to your belt.

Try it out and let us know what you think of the Conair Infiniti Pro Straightener!

Annual Swish For The Cure 2017

February 8, 2017

On February 4th, we had the pleasure of being a part of the annual Swish for the Cure event, a charity dedicated to children affected by childhood cancer. Let us begin by acknowledging how fortunate we are to have been able to work with such amazing children.

DSC_0364 png

This was our third year and, being situated next to the cotton candy, needless to say our stand was quite popular.

Take a look at how the day went:

DSC_0307 png DSC_0179

The kids were excited to get glam on this special day. Lipstick was definitely a popular feature.

DSC_0275We took advantage of recent trends including glitter roots. This may have been our favourite beauty feature of the day. The glitter part had the domino effect: you see someone with it and, suddenly, it’s the one thing you’re missing. The kids were pumped to indulge in some sparkle and we love how it turned out.

A huge thank you to Elite Camps and the Swish for the Cure Charity for having us this year!
