Winterizing Your Foundation

January 27, 2020

‘Winterizing’ your foundation for the colder months is a thing! When doing our client’s makeup during these winter months, we always keep in mind that with their skin being more susceptible to dehydration & dryness throughout the day, it’s always good to take preventative measures to make it look more luminous. That can include changing your foundation in the winter months versus sticking to your same foundation all-year round!

For someone who typically has oily skin in the summer, it’s not out of the ordinary to have really dry skin in the winter depending on your environment (due to heaters, lifestyle, location & environment). A foundation that will make your skin glow will usually have light-refracting technology that makes it appear extra radiant, but will also have added hydration to go hand-in-hand with your winter moisturizer. Here are some of our favourite foundations that you can use in winter (that you might not use in the summer depending on your skin-type!) to help your skin look amazing.

Light coverage:

For a no-makeup-makeup dewy finish, the Laura Mercier Tinted Moisturizer Natural Skin Perfector is a great option. It’s border-line skincare with spf 30 that’s needed in the winter months as well! It is described as a ‘Hydrating Complex made up of Macadamia and Kukui Seed Oils that helps increase the skin’s moisture levels long-term for 24 hours of hydration, while reducing the signs of visibly dry skin’.

Medium coverage:

Tarte’s ‘Shape-Tape’ Hydrating Gel foundation is very luminous, buildable & oil free (yes you can get hydration from an oil free foundation too), with hyaluronic acid and collagen that work to plump and smooth the skin!

Full coverage:

Lastly, for a more full coverage hydrating foundation I love the Nars Natural Radiant Long-wear Foundation. The name says it all! Nars claims that 91% of women agree that their skin appears smoother while wearing the foundation.Enjoy extra-hydrated skin for these last few winter months and you’ll see the difference. 2015 Oscar Makeup Trends

February 26, 2015

At the 2015 Oscars we saw a wide array of beauty looks. From Blushing beauties, Smokey eyes, bold lips and plenty more! Here’s a rundown of some of our favourite looks and how to achieve them including some of the exact products worn plus a few of our our favourites to help achieve these camera ready looks.

Bold Lips:Screen Shot 2015-02-24 at 1.40.09 PMA bold lip always makes a statement on the red carpet. Emma Stone was a stand out wearing Revlon Hd Lipstick in Tulip (a great shade for Spring!). Lady Gaga’s classic lip was achieved with NARS matte velvet lip crayon in dragon girl.

Nude Lips:Screen Shot 2015-02-24 at 1.50.55 PMTo honor all the beautiful nude lips that graced the Oscar’s red carpet we wanted to share with you a few of our favorite nude shades. For a cool pinky-nude like Jlo’s try MAC Saint Germain. For more classic nude’s try Tom Ford Nude Vanille & YSL Lingerie Pink.

Smokey Eyes:Screen Shot 2015-02-24 at 2.01.36 PMSmokey eyes make an appearance at every award show. Lupita Nyang’o, Sienna Miller and Dakota Johnson were our favourites at this year’s 87th Academy Awards. The applications weren’t too heavy and complemented their eye colours perfectly really making them pop! Lupita’s Makeup Artist used Lancôme Color Design 5-pan eyeshadow palette in Gris Fumee and Dakota Johnson was wearing Chanel Les 4 Ombres palette in 226 Tissé Rivoli.

Blushing Beauties:Screen Shot 2015-02-24 at 2.23.25 PMFresh faced beauty never goes out of style and these stars showed off how gorgeous a soft feminine palette looks. Chloe Grace Moretz eye makeup was Laura Mercier’s Sateen Eye Color in Kir Royal. Her Makeup Artist, Mai Quynh used rose tones to create a monochromatic makeup look that paired perfectly with the florals in her gown. The perfect blush shade helps tie a look together and adding a pop of colour to the cheeks is a great way to give your complexion a healthy looking glow and dimension.  Anna Kendrick wore a cream coral blush in Ceramide by Elizabeth Arden which was a perfect match with her dress.

What were some of your favourite beauty trends from the 2015 Oscars?

2013 Teen Choice Awards – Best Beauty looks.

August 14, 2013

We loved seeing the Young Hollywood starlets emphasizing their best feature’s with such fresh-faced looks at this year’s Teen Choice Awards. Here are a few of our favourite Beauty looks from the Blue Carpet.

Lucy-Hale-Houghton-2013-Teen-Choice-Awards-hair-and-makeup-600x787

Teen Choice Awards host, Lucy Hale  definitely plays up on the “less is more” phrase.  We both agree that it’s what’s under her makeup that’s making this look really pop.

Get the look:

Skin: Preparation is everything. Get in the routine of proper cleansing and moisturizing. Also, don’t forget to exfoliate at least twice a week to slough off any dead skin cells and let your skin reveal it’s healthy glow.

To smooth the skin start by applying a primer (we like Laura Mercier). Apply a  tinted moisturizer for light and sheer coverage followed by a light dusting of loose powder. Finish the look with a spritz of  hydration mist. This will keep skin healthy and flawless all day/night long.

Hair: Start by parting hair with a tail comb (follow the arch point of your brow), take one inch sections of hair and wrap around a curling rod directing pieces away from your face. After curling set with a touchable spray such as Healthy Sexy hair spray – soy touchable.

Crystal-Reed-in-Carolina-Herrera-2013-Teen-Choice-Awards-4-600x782

We’re loving Crystal Reed’s  voluminous blow out, bare face with a bolder brow and pop of color on the lips. A perfect pairing with this black and white patterned CH Carolina Herrera pant suit.

Get the look:

Brows: Try Dior’s Brow Styler in Universal Brown. Apply in light strokes and comb through to intensity.

Lips: Try NARS semi matte  in Jungle Red

Hair: For voluminous locks like Crystal’s, wash hair with a volumizing shampoo and conditioner, followed by a few drops of hair oil to protect, soften and boost shine.  Blow dry tresses and finish off by sprinkling Kevin Murphy Powder Puff Volumizing Powder  at the roots to create volume and texture. Remember less is more!

Miley+Cyrus+Teen+Choice+Awards+2013+Press+rFdogscsn0sl

This girl can rock any look but we particularly loved Miley’s gorgeous contoured cheeks, bold eyes and soft peachy lip. As for her hair — it’s growing on us … we think 😉

Get the look:

Cheeks: For Miley’s matte contoured bronzer try Tarte’s Amazonian clay matte mineral bronzer with Glo Minerals angled blush brush. This dense angled brush will give you that sharp chiseled cheekbone look.

Eyeliner: Miley loves “tight lining” (a technique used under the lash line for a natural but defined look). This is best achieved with a soft pencil liner such as,  Mac’s ‘Engraved’ black eyeliner on the top and bottom lash line and slightly smoke it out with a smudge brush.

Lips: We suggest Mac’s ‘Naked’ lipliner with Chanel’s 114 PRÉCIEUSE lipstick for a soft finish.

Unknown-7

Straight hair is making a comeback! Selena’s sleek hair was paired with a subtle cat eye and light pink lip which complimented her turquoise Neil Lane earrings and sexy green dress perfectly.

Get the look:

Eyes: For Selena’s dramatic eyes line the entire upper lash-line with a black creme liner such as Tarte’s Amazonian clay Waterproof liner in black

Skin: Warm up your face with a bronzer. Contouring your cheeks and temples for a little added definition. Try NARS bronzer in Laguna.

Lastly, we just had to add a link to Ashton Kutcher’s acceptance speech. If you haven’t seen it, click the link and take a few minutes to watch it. Very inspiring and not one to miss.
